Welcome to our new blog, you like? I'm jon, one of the two authors who will contribute all the crap good stuff here. At the moment I'm a 3rd year university student studying accounting, a part-time barista, free-lance graphic designer, and a person who generally needs more inteterests in life. Hopefully this blog will be a way to find out more about myself, and develop some skills (photography and writing, obviously) along the way. Another thing worth noting is that I'm about to spend the next 6 months of my life in Tokyo, Japan as part of a exchange program. This is probably the opportunity that instigated me to get a camera and with some luck capture some good memories.

This began my shopping hunt for a camera of my own, and despite a lot of advice from others, I decided to go with a compact digital point-and-shoot camera. Yea I know just about everyone has one, but I actually didn't, and the only camera I bothered to carry around was the one stuck to the back of my mobile phone. My investment was in a 12x optical super zoom, high end camera, with a decent amount of manual options to allow me to learn more about basic photography and composition. The thought of having to try and squeeze every ounce of potential out of this new toy kind of challenges me. So I don't have anything much to show yet, but never-the-less, say hello to the newest member of my family.
